CBD REVITALIZATION PROJECT

Ross Creek Precinct,Townsville

The CBD task force led the development of the Townsville CBD masterplan.

DMQ were tasked with the development of concepts which incorporated the Tomlins Street and Plume Street precincts at South Townsville, a pedestrian connection across a foot bridge over Ross Creek, through to the Flinders Street East precinct, the Wickham Street precinct through to The Strand, Anzac Park and Tobruk Pool precincts.

The Project involved detailed studies of existing traffic and pedestrian flows, traffic engineering improvements, the provision of bicycle paths and increased footpath widths for alfresco dining, hard and soft landscape concepts, including providing for extensive pedestrian shading throughout all precincts.

OCEAN TERMINAL: PORT OF TOWNSVILLE LIMITED

Townsville City

URBAN DESIGN PROJECT

 Wickham Street, Townsville

The principal aim of the project was to produce a developed design creating a “city making” link between two of Townsville’s major assets – Flinders Street and The Strand.
The key outcome was the provision of enhanced and effective pedestrian and cyclist connectivity, linking the city and the sea via Wickham Street.

DMQ worked collaboratively with senior planning and engineering staff at TCC on traffic engineering matters and with a landscape architect for the soft landscaping.
The “connection” is achieved visually with improved vistas and with “focal point” structures at key interchange locations, and texturally through the continuation of “feel” from Flinders Street, through Flinders Street East, through Wickham Street.

There were numerous other aspects of the project including developing in some detail the hard and soft landscaping, signage, small buildings, and several focal point structures that provide the key links to the project.

URBAN DEVELOPMENT GUIDELINES

Ross River Road, Townsville

Townsville City Council as part of the development of the new planning scheme commissioned us to prepare urban development guidelines for the future development of the strip or “ribbon” development of Ross River Road, this consisting of a mixture of established housing intermixed with office conversions of old houses and some newer commercial “infill” development.
Whilst in some precincts our recommendations are reflected in the new planning scheme the direction adopted at this stage has been to restrain further expansion of commercial uses outside of established precincts.

Extracts from the our study are displayed with the qualification that they should not be taken to be guidelines for future development applications.
